Pinocchio, a wooden puppet and son of Geppetto, is brought to life by the Blue Fairy. She promises him that he can become a real boy if he proves himself worthy.

But Pinocchio gets led astray by Honest John and Gideon, and he ends up in the hands of Stromboli, an evil puppeteer.

Pinocchio gets sent to Pleasure Island where wicked boys get turned into donkeys. Jiminy Cricket, his friend and conscience, helps him escape, and he redeems himself by saving Geppetto, who has been swallowed by a whale called Monstro.

Pinocchio is turned into a real boy by the Blue Fairy as a reward for his good deed.
